Examinations Subcommittee Part II Lead Examiner Auditor

The term of office will start on 1 January 2025.

Deadline for applications is 2 July 2024.

ROLE

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit a new Examinations Subcommittee Part II Lead Examiner Auditor. The Examinations Subcommittee Part II is responsible for the practical organisation and development of the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EDAIC) Part II Examination, as well as the management of the EDAIC Part II Guided Questions databank and pool of examiners. The Examinations Subcommittee Part II Lead Examiner Auditor sits on the Examiners Part II Subcommittee and reports to the Chairman of the Examinations Part II Subcommittee.

The main duties of the Examinations Subcommittee Part II Lead Examiner Auditor will be the following:

  • Together with the Chair and Deputy Chair, be the reference person for Part II examiners.
  • Oversee the selection of new examiners.
  • Oversee the appointment of new examiners based on the assessments of co-examiners and examinations Chairperson and Senior Examiner’s audit reports.
  • Participate in the creation of learning materials aimed at examiners in order to maintain the highest standards of the EDAIC.
  • Participate in the creation of feedback reports aimed at examiners.
  • Participate in the selection process of Part II Subcommittee Members and Examinations Committee Members.
  • Support the development of the Part II pool of examiners and strive to maintain its high standard.
  • Liaise with the Examinations Committee and Part II Subcommittee regarding strategic and more specific decisions.
  • Provide guidance to the Examinations staff on important organisational/logistical matters related to the Part II in agreement with the Part II Subcommittee Chair.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with national societies of anaesthesiology, specialist societies, national authorities and other key contacts to recruit Part II examiners in specific countries or regions in agreement with the Part II Subcommittee Chair and Examinations Committee Chair .

REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must have the following profile:

  • Must have been an Active ESAIC member for at least two years.
  • Must be a consultant (i.e. not in training; retired anaesthetists cannot apply).
  • Must be in clinical practice (i.e. not working for research only).
  • Practising anaesthesia in a hospital with trainee anaesthetists.
  • Experience in teaching and developing educational materials and tools. [MK1] 
  • Examination-related activity and specific involvement in EDAIC Part II examination centres.
  • Extensive experience as EDAIC Part II examiners and preferably as examination Chairperson and/or Senior Examiner.
  • Previous administrative involvement in an examinations committee; experience in one of the ESAIC Examinations subcommittees is preferred (1).
  • Good command of English, knowledge of other languages of the exam is a strong asset.
  • Strong diplomacy and leadership skills.

(1) Nobody can serve for more than 8 years as Member of the Examinations Committee, including the subcommittees, and for more than 12 years for a combination of Member and Chair (Chair + Chair-Elect + Past-Chair + Member) in the Examinations Committee, including in the Part I, Part II or OLA Subcommittees.

TERM OF OFFICE

The new Examinations Subcommittee Part II Lead Examiner Auditor will be elected among the existing members of the Examinations Committee & Subcommittee or among the pool of Part II examiners beginning on 1 January 2024, and this appointment will not alter his/her term of office.

Applications will be reviewed by the Examinations Part II Subcommittee and the selected candidate will be approved by the ESAIC Board. The outcome will be communicated at the earliest.
