NASC Chair 2025-2027
The term of office will start on 1 January 2025.

The Chair of the NASC is a critical leadership role within ESAIC. This position involves guiding the strategic direction of NASC, overseeing challenges and opportunities across national member societies, and collaborating primarily with their presidents or representatives to promote the mission and vision of ESAIC as the leading European organisation in anaesthesiology & intensive care. The chair of the NASC is also a member of the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Be responsible for the production of a 3-year strategic plan, in line with the
ESAIC overall strategy - Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
to enhance the impact and relevance of ESAIC.

- Governance:
- Chair the NASC meetings, ensuring effective communication, participation, and adherence to established governance principles.
- Attend the Board, Council and GA
- Act as liaison between the representatives of the NS and exchange on common
projects, opportunities and challenges – Define how ESAIC can support national
societies in addressing their key challenges, and how national societies can, in
turn, support ESAIC. - Collaborate with internal ESAIC committees in an advisory capacity, as defined by
the board and aligned with ESAIC’s overall strategic plan, leveraging mutual
strengths. - Other responsibilities as defined by our bylaws
Qualifications
- Have an established track record in the field of anaesthesiology and/or intensive care – be a highly respected and senior anaesthesiologist and/or intensivist
- Have established leadership qualities and exemplary behaviour towards the community
- The candidate must have prior or current experience as the president of a national society or have held a leadership role within the governance of a national society.
- Experience serving in the NASC is an asset.
- Bring the ability to cooperate with other societies
- Insight into emerging trends and challenges in the scientific community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the society
- Be an active member of the ESAIC for min 3 years at the moment of the application (2021-2023)
- Be fluent in English
Terms of office
3 years: January 2025 until December 2027
Time Commitment
The chair is expected to dedicate a significant amount of time to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, including attendance at regular board meetings, participation in committee work, and representation at relevant events and conferences.

Election
- Eligible candidates’ applications will be sent to all NASC members by 21 October 2024.
- The Chair of NASC is elected by the NASC representatives using a weighted voting system.
The voting will be based on the following scale based on the number of members
declared by the national society.
≤ 250 members = 1 vote
251-500 members = 2 votes
501-1000 = 3 votes
1001-2000 = 4 votes
2001-3000 = 5 votes
Each further 1000 or fraction thereof = 1 extra vote
- Closing the elections on 12 November; results from the NASC representatives are
known and shared with the Board - ESAIC Board gives its final decision on 18 November
