The ESAIC hosts the Euroanaesthesia and Focus Meeting congresses that serve as platforms for cutting-edge science and innovation in the field. These events bring together experts, foster networking, and facilitate knowledge exchange in anaesthesiology, intensive care, pain management, and perioperative medicine. Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The ESAIC aims to advance patient outcomes and contribute to the progress of anaesthesiology and intensive care evidence-based practice through research. The ESAIC Clinical Trial Network (CTN), the Academic Contract Research Organisation (A-CRO), the Research Groups and Grants all contribute to the knowledge and clinical advances in the peri-operative setting.

Patient Safety

The ESAIC aims to promote the professional role of anaesthesiologists and intensive care physicians and enhance perioperative patient outcomes by focusing on quality of care and patient safety strategies. The Society is committed to implementing the Helsinki Declaration and leading patient safety projects.

Partnerships

The ESAIC works in collaboration with industry, national societies, and specialist societies to promote advancements in anaesthesia and intensive care. The Industry Partnership offers visibility and engagement opportunities for industry participants with ESAIC members, facilitating understanding of specific needs in anaesthesiology and in intensive care. This partnership provides resources for education and avenues for collaborative projects enhancing science, education, and patient safety. The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

Patient Safety and Quality Committee Members

The term of office will start on 1 January 2025.

Deadline for applications is 1 July 2024.

The ESAIC Patient Safety and Quality Committee (PSQC) is seeking to recruit 2 new members. The appointments will commence on 1 January 2025.

Role

Each Committee member plays an important role in the activities of the ESAIC and the PSQC. The main duties are:

  • Actively participate in the projects of the PSQC. This is an active committee with many ongoing projects.
  • To provide suggestions for further development of the PSQC
  • To provide suggestions for topics for the Patient Safety and Quality programme for the Euroanaesthesia Congress

The appointed members will be required to attend meetings of the PSQC. Travel expenses and accommodation required to attend these meetings are provided according to the standard ESAIC reimbursement policy.

Requirements

Applications are encouraged from all ESAIC members who meet the following criteria:

  • Is a qualified anaesthesiologist
  • Must have Active, Affiliate or Trainee ESAIC membership at the time of application
  • Has participated or been involved in ESAIC activities
  • Is an expert in the areas of the Patient Safety and Quality
  • Has been involved in Patient Safety and Quality Projects
  • Has publications related to Patient Safety and Quality
  • Has spoken or been invited to speak on Patient Safety related topics
  • Is fluent in English.

Term of office

The term of office of elected members is three years, which can be extended subject to approval for up to two further years. No member can serve for more than five years.

If you wish to apply, please send an e-mail to patient.safety@esaic.org and include:

  • PSQC member application form which should include a list of any publications, highlighting those related to Patient Safety and Quality (you can download this here)
  • Your Curriculum Vitae, which should detail how you meet the criteria
  • Short outline (maximum one page of A4) of your goals and perspective that you could contribute as a member of the PSQC

Applications must be received no later than 30 June 2024 (23:59 CET). The appointment will be made by the ESAIC Board following a recommendation by the Nominations Committee.
