The ESAIC Scientific Committee (SC) is seeking to recruit two new members for its Scientific Forum 6: Ethics.
To strengthen the expert group working in the Ethics Forum, the ESAIC is looking for candidates with expertise in ethical matters in healthcare and medical research. Both anaesthesiologists with or without a specific interest in intensive care and intensive care physicians are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
The scientific forums provide a European platform for contact and exchange of ideas and scientific initiatives within their specific field of interest with an aim of producing scientific content for conferences and educational programmes organised by the ESAIC. In this structure, members of the Ethics Forum have the following duties:
- Proposing ethical content for inclusion in clinical sessions or dedicated sessions addressing ethical issues within the scientific programme of Euroanaesthesia and other ESAIC educational events (such as Focus Meetings, webinars, podcasts, e-learning modules, and other formats).
- Collaborating with other forums, especially when developing scientific content in overlap with other forums’ specialty.
- Serving as the primary contact group for ethical matters related to abstract submission, review and presentation.
- Evaluating abstracts that have been flagged for ethical concerns during the review process.
- Providing advice on ethical-related questions in ESAIC projects.
- Undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned by the ESAIC Board.
Specific Expertise Needed
Candidates should possess specific interest in ethical matters related to ethical decision-making in anaesthesiology, pain and intensive care medicine, including patient consent and autonomy, end-of-life care and ethical dilemmas in critical care settings, ethical considerations in clinical research and trials and professional conduct and ethical standards in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine.
Eligibility and Requirements for Application
- Only ESAIC active, affiliate or trainee members in good standing can apply for member positions in a scientific forum.
- Applicants must be fluent in English, and apt to give lectures and act as speakers and/or moderators in relevant ESAIC scientific and educational programmes, including Euroanaesthesia.
- In accordance with the ESAIC commitment to diversity, subforums can include no more than 2 members working in the same country and no more than 1 member from the same institution.
IMPORTANT! Applicants must ensure that they can dedicate sufficient time to this commitment. Timely and continuous communication with the Scientific Committee and ESAIC Headquarters is expected to ensure the smooth running of the committee’s projects.
Term of office
The term of office is 3 years. In exceptional circumstances, a mandate extension (to maximum 5 years) can be applied for, subject to availability and commitment to the forum tasks.
All terms of office will start on 1 January 2026.
