Significant Impact Factor growth for the European Journal of Anaesthesiology in 2024
The European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA) has officially achieved a 2024 Impact Factor (IF) of 6.8, marking a major milestone in its continued rise as a leading journal in the field. This is a significant increase from its 2023 Impact Factor of 4.2 and represents one of the highest year-on-year improvements in the journal’s history.
This achievement highlights the growing visibility, scientific quality, and relevance of the journal within the global anaesthesiology and intensive care community. The rise reflects the exceptional performance of several key publications over the past two years, including clinical guidelines, joint consensus statements, and high-quality original research.
This upward trajectory positions EJA among the leading journals in its field, marking a return to its highest impact factor in recent years and affirming its commitment to publishing high-quality, practice-defining research.
The increase of the IF is driven by a strong portfolio of clinical guidelines, consensus statements, and innovative studies. Leading the list of top-cited papers is the 2022 update of the ESAIC Guidelines on the Management of Severe Peri-operative Bleeding. Other high-impact contributions include joint ESAIC/ESRA guidelines on regional anaesthesia, PROSPECT recommendations on postoperative pain management, and key guidelines on neuromuscular blockade and preoperative fasting in children.
These results underscore the success of EJA’s strategic editorial direction, prioritising guideline-driven content and high-impact research with real-world clinical relevance. They also reflect the growing engagement of the ESAIC scientific community and its commitment to advancing anaesthesia and intensive care through rigorous evidence and collaboration.
With this rise in visibility and influence, the EJA continues to be a critical vehicle for disseminating cutting-edge knowledge and supporting clinical excellence across Europe and beyond.
