Examinations Committee 2022 report
Bazil Ateleanu
Chair of the ESAIC Examinations Committee
Dear Examination Committee and Subcommittees Members, Fellow Examiners, Invigilators, Hosts, Candidates and ESAIC Members, as a Chair of the Examinations Committee, I will try to summarise the events we encountered in 2022 and highlight our strategy for 2023.
OLA
1877 candidates registered for the OLA 2022.
- Candidates from countries where OLA was part of the national examination had a particular day of sitting, 22 April 2022.
- Candidates from other countries were offered the opportunity to sit the OLA from the comfort of their own home and computer, the Home On-Line Assessment (HOLA), anytime between 27 April to 11 May 2022.
Of 1877 registered for the event, 1650 candidates completed the OLA in 2022.
Registrations for OLA 2023 are now open until Thursday, 2 March, at 13:30 CET. So don’t miss the chance to register!
- For countries where OLA is part of the national examination (Argentina, Moldova, Slovenia and Wallonia, the French-speaking area of Belgium), the OLA will take place “classically” in centres on 14 April 2023, with physical invigilation.
- For candidates from other countries, Home On-Line Assessment will take place from 19 April 2023 to 3 May 2023.
Part I
Part I examination took place on 10 September 2022. The exam was run in a paper version only in all EDAIC Part I centres. More than 3300 candidates registered for this exam, and 2886 sat Part I 2022 in 88 centres in 47 countries. We wish to stress that once again, this pleased outcome was only made possible thanks to Part I Hosts’ incredible dedication and flexibility, implementing many complicated measures to ensure conformity to governmental restrictions, the safety of candidates and invigilators alike and maintaining a high threshold of invigilation.
There were several new Part I centres, including Mersin-Turkey, Skopje-Republic of North Macedonia, Thiruvalla-India and Zagreb-Croatia.
The Examinations Committee aims to open more Part I seats in 2023 in the existing centres and new centres (in Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Jordan and Paraguay) to ensure all interested candidates can register for Part I in 2023. Part I 2023 will take place on 16 September 2023, and registrations will open in March 2022 on the ESAIC website.
Part II
Regarding EDAIC Part II, more than 1300 candidates registered for Part II 2022, and a record of 965 candidates sat Part II, thanks to the efforts of 260 examiners from different countries who gave up their free time mainly over the weekends, examining voluntary basis. This couldn’t be achieved without the sterling work of the ESAIC staff, to which we are all examiners and examinees so grateful.
The Turkish language will be introduced in 2023. The EDAIC Part II examination is now available in 8 languages, i.e. English, French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Scandinavian and Turkish.
The candidate with maximum scores throughout Part II (truly outstanding!) receives the Sir Peter Simpson Award. I am proud to announce that the Sir Peter Simpson Prize winner for the best answer in the EDAIC Part II 2022 is Dr Joana Alves Almeida from the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto, Portugal. Many congratulations to Dr Alves Almeida!
The Part II 2023 registrations opened in January 2022, with 1440 seats in 18 different examination sessions. 1426 candidates registered for Part II 2023.
It is my absolute pleasure to wholeheartedly thank everybody involved in the exams for their exceptional contribution to the success of EDAIC 2022 and the preparations for successful exams in 2023.
