The ESAIC hosts the Euroanaesthesia and Focus Meeting congresses that serve as platforms for cutting-edge science and innovation in the field. Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The ESAIC aims to advance patient outcomes and contribute to the progress of anaesthesiology and intensive care evidence-based practice through research. The ESAIC Clinical Trial Network (CTN), the Academic Contract Research Organisation (A-CRO), the Research Groups and Grants all contribute to the knowledge and clinical advances in the peri-operative setting.

EU Projects

Patient Safety

The ESAIC aims to promote the professional role of anaesthesiologists and intensive care physicians and enhance perioperative patient outcomes by focusing on quality of care and patient safety strategies. The Society is committed to implementing the Helsinki Declaration and leading patient safety projects.

The ESAIC works in collaboration with industry, national societies, and specialist societies to promote advancements in anaesthesia and intensive care. The Industry Partnership offers visibility and engagement opportunities for industry participants with ESAIC members, facilitating understanding of specific needs in anaesthesiology and in intensive care. This partnership provides resources for education and avenues for collaborative projects enhancing science, education, and patient safety. The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

Research Committee Members

The term of office will start on 1 January 2023.

Deadline for applications is 25 June 2024.

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit new members for the ESAIC Research Committee.

Role

The ESAIC Research Committee plays an important role in the activities of the Society.

The main duties of the Committee Members are :

  • To review and evaluate the ESAIC Grants applications in the fields of clinical and basic sciences relevant to Anaesthesia, Peri-operative Medicine, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine and Pain
  • To review and evaluate the ESAIC CTN Grants applications and play an active role in the promotion and improvement of the CTN activities  (Clinical Trial Network)
  • To play an active role in the ESAIC Research Committee activities
  • To play an active role as ESAIC Research ambassador
  • To advise on ESAIC A-CRO activities and represent the Research Committee with Industry
  • To participate in the selection of topics and the organisation of the ESAIC Masterclasses
  • To attend meetings of the Research Committee (normally three times per year)

Requirements

The Research Committee is usually composed of 10 members (including the Chairperson, the Past Chairperson, the Scientific Committee Chairperson and the Mentorship Programme Leader).

The Research Committee member will meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a qualified anaesthesiologist or intensivist
  • Must have been an ESAIC active member for at least one year
  • Experience in writing Grant applications and obtaining competitive funding
  • Expertise in clinical and / or basic and/or Big Data/AI research is required
  • Established academic reputation
  • Links with national/European Anaesthesiology and/or Intensive Care societies
  • Fluent in English

Gender balance and representation from throughout Europe is encouraged and no more than three representatives working professionally in the same country (except for ex-officio or co-opted members with no voting rights), and no more than one representative from an institution, can sit on the Committee. Term of office

The term of office will start on 1 January 2025. The tenure is for three years, renewable twice for one year (maximum of 5 years).

Reimbursement

Travel expenses to attend meetings are provided according to the standard ESAIC reimbursement policy.
