European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care
EDAIC
The European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care examination (EDAIC) is a multilingual, end-of-training, two-part examination covering the relevant basic sciences and clinical subjects appropriate for a specialist anaesthesiologist.
About
European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care
Endorsed by the European Board of Anaesthesiology (EBA, UEMS) and the Council for European Specialist Medical Assessments (CESMA, UEMS).
All questions of the EDAIC have been created to match the domains set by the UEMS European Training Requirements in Anaesthesiology.
The existence of a supra-national examination in anaesthesiology provides an incentive for the development of departmental, university, national and European training programmes. The aim of the examination is to achieve a uniformly high standard of knowledge by anaesthesiologists throughout Europe as judged by an independent Board of Examiners.
The EDAIC can also be used as an excellent tool for learning and validation outside Europe. The World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) commends this initiative and is working with the ESAIC to support the delivery of the examination worldwide.
Digital Diploma
EDAIC diplomates will receive their EDAIC Diploma in digital version. A unique and secured link will be sent to them using blockchain digital credential technology.
The blockchain is a decentralised, perennial and forgery-proof database. A blockchain digital credential is a secure URL link giving access to a tamper-proof and directly verifiable certificate.
With the new version of the EDAIC, diplomates can digitally prove their diplomas’ authenticity without any procedure – for life. Its authenticity is guaranteed by design and free of administrative burden.
The document can be viewed on all devices and shared across all media and professional networks. The diplomates can also download it in PDF format, with a QR code referring to the blockchain link confirming the document’s authenticity. The PDF format of the Diploma will allow diplomates to print it in high quality should they wish to.
Getting the EDAIC Diploma is easy: once it is ready, the ESAIC will e-mail you a unique weblink to your Diploma.

Diploma Guide
Advice to diplomates
Further to the amalgamation between the European Academy of Anaesthesiology (EAA), the European Society of Anaesthesiologists (ESA) and the Confederation of European National Societies of Anaesthesiology (CENSA) to form the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) on 1 January 2005, the title of diplomate changed from “DEAA” to “DESA”. The title changed again from “DESA” to “DESAIC” when the name of the Society became the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) on 1 October 2020. The titles DEAA, DESA and DESAIC have equal value and meet the same standards.
Diploma recipients are invited to attend the Euroanaesthesia Diploma Ceremony where the diplomas are presented and are also entitled to a reduced registration fee to attend the Euroanaesthesia Congress if they so wish.
