Welcome to the new EJA Editor-in-Chief
The ESAIC is very happy to welcome aboard our newest Editor-in-Chief (EIC) for the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA), Charles Marc Samama. His role officially started on 14 September 2020.
Charles Marc Samama is currently Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine, AP-HP Centre–Université de Paris, Hôpital Cochin, Paris, France. He is the past-Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESAIC) and also the past-Chair of the new Scientific Subcommittee on Perioperative and Critical Care Thrombosis and Hemostasis of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). He is the President of the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA).
Professor Samama has published more than 230 peer-reviewed articles and reviews (H index = 45). He has co-authored the Antithrombotic and Thrombolytic Therapy: American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines 8th edition (“Prevention of venous thromboembolism”) and 9th edition (“Prevention in VTE in non-orthopaedic surgical patients”). He is co-authoring the 10th edition (“Perioperative Management of Antithrombotic Agents”). He has co-authored the 2013 ESAIC Guidelines on Management of severe perioperative bleeding and the 2017 update. He chairs the ESAIC Task Force for the prevention on perioperative venous thromboembolism (guidelines published in February 2018 in the EJA, IF 4,5).
We would also like to give a very warm and appreciative THANK YOU to Martin Tramèr and his team for the excellent work they have done over the last several years for the EJA. Professor Tramèr joined as EIC in 2007 and was instrumental in raising the profile of the EJA to where it is now, from a 1.43 impact factor in 2007 and 14th in rank to its current impact factor of 4.5 and ranked 7th out of 32. Thank you, Professor Tramèr for all your dedication to the society and the journal and we wish you well in the next phase of your profession.
