The 2025 EDAIC® Part I Examination
On Saturday, 13 September, candidates around the world sat the EDAIC® Part I Examination.
The European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EDAIC®) tests essential knowledge in both basic sciences and clinical anaesthesia and intensive care. It is a key step for every specialist in training, as well as for qualified specialists wishing to demonstrate they have reached the European standard of knowledge in anaesthesiology and intensive care.
This year, registration opened for 111 centres across 59 countries, welcoming a total of 3,439 candidates. Two-thirds of these candidates came from Europe. The examination was conducted in 100 active centres worldwide, across four continents, in two formats (paper-based or online), and in 11 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Portuguese, Turkish and Romanian.
The examination held mandatory or official status in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Egypt, Finland, Hungary, Indonesia, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Turkey.
In 2024, the EDAIC Part I Examination Centre opened in Tirana in collaboration with ESAIC and the University of Medicine, Tirana (UMT). The centre, led by our host Prof. Dr Rudin Domi, MD, PhD, FESAIC, provides candidates in Albania and neighbouring countries with local access to the EDAIC examination and supports the continued development of postgraduate training in anaesthesiology through the CEEA Programme. The 2025 prize winner is among those who followed this pathway in Tirana, Albania.
The winner of the John Zorab Prize for the best answer in the EDAIC Part I 2025 is Dr Gentian Huti, anaesthesiologist-intensivist at Spitali Amerikan 3, Tirana, Albania.

ESAIC warmly thanks all hosts, invigilators and inspectors who ensured the smooth running of the examination while upholding EDAIC®’s high standards. We also extend our congratulations and a warm welcome to the new centres that hosted the exam for the first time this year: Manama (Bahrain), Burgas and Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Lyon (France), Banjarmasin, Manado, Palembang and Surabaya (Indonesia), Pristina (Kosovo), Sevilla (Spain), and Kyiv (Ukraine).

Last year, we celebrated 40 years of EDAIC®. Interest in the examination continues to grow thanks to the outstanding network of ESAIC volunteers, the dedicated work of the Examinations Committee, and the commitment of all trainers and candidates who make this exciting educational project possible.
