Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The Industry Partnership offers visibility and engagement opportunities for industry participants with ESAIC members, facilitating understanding of specific needs in anaesthesiology and in intensive care. This partnership provides resources for education and avenues for collaborative projects enhancing science, education, and patient safety. The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

at the ESAIC

Trainees Committee Members

The term of office will start on 1 January 2025.

Deadline for applications is 2 July 2024.

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit four enthusiastic and motivated new members to the Trainees Committee, under the auspices of the ESAIC Education and Training Committee.

The position for a three-year mandate becomes vacant on 1 January 2025.

Role

The mission of the ESAIC Trainees Committee is to:

  1. To connect an estimated number of 22 000 European trainees
  2. To enable a representative flow of information from the trainees from each European country and the ESAICTC
  3. The ESAICTC is the interface between the data collected from the ESAICTN and the ESAIC Leadership.
  4. Advocate for the interests and concerns of anaesthesia trainees in ESAIC, addressing issues such as work-life balance, training requirements, and professional standards.

The Committee consists of 6 Committee members, including the Chair, organized into 4 Task Forces: Education, European and International Trainee Sections, Social Networks and Euroanaesthesia Trainees’ Programme. We are working closely together, and along with the Education Department of the ESAIC Secretariat in Brussels throughout the year.

The following positions are available:

Social Networks Coordinator: 2 positions

  • Specific responsibilities:
    • Promoting ESAIC Trainees Network (ESAICTN) and ESAIC activities among trainees
  • Creation of educational social media activities like live sessions or new formats on different themes of interest for trainees
    • Management of our social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and monitoring of user behavior and trends
    • Creation of posts, stories or reels with educational, informative and entertaining content for ESAIC trainees
    • Promoting the Euroanaesthesia Congress and providing a platform for trainees to connect during the congress, participating in educational and organizational activities
    • Adaptation to current trends and developments in the social media landscape and designing an annual strategy
    • Estimated time of work per month: 10h
    • Requirements:
      • You are a social and collaborative person
      • You are creative and able to create engaging content tailored to different social media platforms
      • You are an expert/you are very willing to learn how to manage social media accounts
      • You have great time management and communication skills

Trainees’ Event Program Coordinator:   1 position

  • Specific responsibilities:
    • Attend the yearly Euroanaesthesia (costs covered according to the standard ESAIC Reimbursement policy)
    • Identify the expectations and needs of the European trainees;
    • Promote the young anesthesiologist and intensive care junior doctors in ESAIC;
    • Create an attractive educative programme during the Euroanesthesia and other ESAIC events, this includes finding interesting topics and speakers, as well as being a moderator at the ESAIC Booth;
    • Organize the Trainees Networking Event held at Euroanaesthesia in collaboration with the ESAIC Headquarters staff.
    • Support the Congress, Scientific or other Committees with proposals for and participation in the Congress and other educational or scientific activities.
    • Estimated time of work per month: 8h
    • Requirements:
      • You possess strong social and collaborative skills, adept at connecting with individuals.
      • Proficient in presentation and public speaking.
      • Demonstrates excellent organisational and time management abilities.
      • Exhibits proficiency in crisis management and displays flexibility.

Education Coordinator: 1 position

  • Specific responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with the Education and Training and Examination Committees for creating a MCQs Database for preparation for EDAIC Exam;
    • Create educational material like MCQs, Videos, Podcasts;
    • Coordinate the Education Task force and the Trainees representatives in the Education and Training Committee for development of educational content specific for trainees needs.
    • Estimated time of work per month: 10 h
    • Requirements:
      • Having passed EDAIC Part 1 Exam (desirable);
      • You are a social and collaborative person, you engage easily with new people;
      • You possess familiarity with educational resources and learning tools.
      • Demonstrates excellent organisational and time management abilities.
      • Exhibits proficiency in crisis management and displays flexibility.

General responsibilities:

  • Attend 1 committee meeting at the annual Euroanaesthesia Congress and monthly Teams (teleconference) meetings throughout the year;
  • Promoting ESAIC and ESAIC Trainees Network at your local hospital as well as at national and international level;
  • Promote the young anesthesiologist and intensive care junior doctors within ESAIC:
    • Increase trainees’ awareness of European standards and professional requirements;
    • Inform about the European training curriculum and common training frameworks;
  • Become fully updated about all Committee activities to coordinate the actions of all members and define strategies for the respective Task Forces;
  • Help your colleagues in their projects and activities;
  • Represent the Trainees Committee externally, as Trainee Representatives in various other ESAIC (Sub)Committees; attend meetings and report back to the Committee.

General requirements

Applications are encouraged from ESAIC Trainee Members who meet the following criteria:

  • Only European Trainee members can apply for Member positions within the Trainees Committee and the new Trainees Committee Member must be an  ESAIC Trainee Member on the date of their application.
  • Applicants to the Trainees Committee Member position are only eligible if their traineeship does not come to an end before their 3-year term as Trainee/Resident ends. The ESAIC Trainee membership ends automatically after the first specialty / Consultancy year.
  • Previous participation in activities organised by the ESAICTN (Euroanaesthesia Trainees Programme Team, Task Force Members…);
  • Previous participation in activities directed to Students and/or Trainees;

Gender balance and representation from throughout Europe will be encouraged on all Committees. No more than two representatives working professionally in any one country (except for ex-officio or co-opted members with no voting rights), and no more than one representative from the same institution can sit on any Committee/Subcommittee. In special circumstances, the Board of Directors could grant an exception to this rule.

Term of Office

The mandate is for 3 years starting 1 January 2025 and is not renewable. Committee members can apply for the Chair position as long as they remain ESAIC Trainees for the whole duration of the aggregated terms of office (Member + Chair + Past Chair).
