Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

Preparing future leaders in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care

European Leadership Programme

Leading an anaesthesia department is unlike managing any other clinical unit. Its cross-disciplinary nature brings complexity, responsibility and strategic demands that go far beyond clinical excellence.

The ESAIC Leadership Programme prepares mid-career anaesthesiologists to lead with confidence, credibility and lasting impact.

Designed by experienced department chairs and healthcare leaders, this six-month journey equips future chairs with the tools to succeed in leadership roles.

A structured six-month journey

Q1 2026 Competitive Selection
Global application window opens. A rigorous selection process to curate an elite cohort of future department chairs.
September 2026 Brussels Module I
First in-person executive gathering in Brussels. Focus on strategic foundations, hospital economics, and visionary leadership.
October 2026 – March 2027 Executive Mentorship
Six months of intensive, small-group dynamics and one-on-one mentorship with industry-leading anaesthesiology chairs.
Spring 2027 Brussels Module II
Second in-person intensive. Mastering boardroom dynamics, advanced negotiation, and global healthcare strategy.

Two intensive in-person courses

Delivered in a beautiful monastery a few km away from Brussels:

5–7 December 2026 – Modules 1 & 2
6–8 March 2027 – Modules 3 & 4

Ongoing mentorship

From December 2026 to May 2027, participants are supported by experienced mentors who provide guidance, feedback and professional insight.

Diploma Ceremony

28–31 May 2027 – Copenhagen (Euroanaesthesia 2027)

The four modules

Module 1 – Foundations of leadership in medicine
Leadership styles, resilience and mindset for medical leaders.

Module 2 – Strategic and operational leadership
Decision-making, resource management and influencing change.

Module 3 – Professional and organisational development
Navigating institutional dynamics and positioning for leadership roles.

Module 4 – Practical skills & career building
Communication, stakeholder management and leading teams effectively.

Learning methods include case studies, simulations, interactive discussions and professional coaching.

Who should apply?

Mid-career anaesthesiologists with at least five years of experience who aspire to step into departmental or academic leadership roles.

Participants are selected based on motivation, aspiration, career stage and experience, with the aim of creating a diverse and high-calibre cohort.
