Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The Industry Partnership offers visibility and engagement opportunities for industry participants with ESAIC members, facilitating understanding of specific needs in anaesthesiology and in intensive care. This partnership provides resources for education and avenues for collaborative projects enhancing science, education, and patient safety. The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

BCSAC Committee – Scientific Promoter

The term of office will start on 1 January 2025.

Deadline for applications is 2 July 2024.

ROLE

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit a Scientific Promoter in the BCSAC Committee. The BCSAC Committee is responsible for the practical organisation and development of the Basic and Clinical Sciences Anaesthetic Course taking place every year, usually in June and online.

The Scientific Promoter of the BCSAC Committee will have full voting rights in this Committee and his/her main duties will be the following:

  • Act as BCSAC speaker on a yearly basis.
  • Analyse the results of BCSAC participants at EDAIC Part I and EDAIC Part II, compare them to those of the other candidates and make conclusions and recommendations for the BCSAC Committee on a yearly basis.
  • Provide guidance to office Staff on matters related to the BCSAC statistics.
  • Travel to attend or remotely attend courses, examinations or meetings. Some meetings usually take place face-to-face at the Euroanaesthesia Congress, but all other meetings take place online.
  • Support the development of the BCSAC and strive to maintain its high standard.
  • Liaise with the BCSAC Committee regarding strategic and/or specific decisions.
  • Participation in the selection process of new BCSAC Committee Members.
  • Undertake other tasks requested by the BCSAC Committee Chair on an ad-hoc basis.

REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must have the following profile:

  • Must be an ESAIC Active or Affiliate Member.
  • Must be a consultant (i.e. not in training; retired anaesthetists cannot apply).
  • Must be in clinical practice (i.e. not working for research only).
  • Must be practising anaesthesia in a hospital with trainee anaesthetists.
  • Must have experience in teaching and educational activities (experience as BCSAC speaker is an asset).
  • Must be familiar with EDAIC.
  • Previous involvement in other ESAIC related projects / bodies.
  • Must have a good command of English and good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics, analytics, study design and publications.

Gender balance and representation from throughout Europe will be encouraged on all Committees.

No more than two representatives working professionally in any one country (except for ex-officio or co-opted members with no voting rights), and no more than one representative from the same institution, can sit on any Committee/Subcommittee. In special circumstances, the Board of Directors could grant an exception to this rule.

TERM OF OFFICE

The term of office for the BCSAC Committee Members is three years renewable twice for one year for a maximum of five years. The new member of the BCSAC Committee will officially start his/her term on 1 January 2025 even if the actual appointment takes place later. BCSAC Members must resign from the Committee within one year after retiring from active work.

OFFER

Travel, accommodation and other necessary expenses incurred to attend courses or meetings are covered by the ESAIC as per the ESAIC Expense Reimbursement Policy.

Complete applications will be reviewed by the BCSAC and Nominations Committees and the outcome will be communicated at the earliest. Please note that an interview, formal or by phone, of short-listed candidates could be organised. All Committee members will need to declare their conflict of interest for the last 3 years. This declaration shall be renewed annually.
