The ESAIC hosts the Euroanaesthesia and Focus Meeting congresses that serve as platforms for cutting-edge science and innovation in the field. These events bring together experts, foster networking, and facilitate knowledge exchange in anaesthesiology, intensive care, pain management, and perioperative medicine. Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

EU Projects

Partnerships

The ESAIC works in collaboration with industry, national societies, and specialist societies to promote advancements in anaesthesia and intensive care. The Industry Partnership offers visibility and engagement opportunities for industry participants with ESAIC members, facilitating understanding of specific needs in anaesthesiology and in intensive care. This partnership provides resources for education and avenues for collaborative projects enhancing science, education, and patient safety. The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

Sustainability Committee Members

The term of office will start on 1 January 2026.

Deadline for applications is 9 June 2025.

ESAIC is seeking to recruit two new motivated and enthusiastic Members to the Sustainability Committee (SustaiC) as of 1 Jan. 2026 to assist in evolving and advancing Sustainability in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.

Role

At ESAIC, we recognise that our actions have an impact on the environment, and we see sustainability and climate change as key strategic issues. ESAIC is thus advocating for increased environmental consciousness in our practices and the facilities in which we work. Physician anaesthesiologists can lead by improving operating room design, anaesthetic agent choice and management, and waste disposal and diversion, and can mitigate the negative environmental effect of anaesthetic practice in all its forms. Sustainability also covers all the professional issues related to quality of life at work and interprofessional relationship (professionalism).

The SustaiC covers the following 3 core areas:

  1. Impact of Anaesthesia / Critical Care / Perioperative Medicine on the environment
  2. Climate change impact on our specialty
  3. Professionalism (professional issues and prevention, behaviour, quality of life)

Requirements

Applications are encouraged from ESAIC Members who meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience and / or involvement in activities related to sustainability and / or well-being at work,
  • Knowledge of the sustainability problematics and topics,
  • Intensive Care Unit expertise is a plus.

Eligibility

At the time of applications, candidates shall have an up-to-date active or affiliate ESAIC membership.

Time commitment

The SustaiC meets once a year in the frame of Euroanaesthesia, provided that the sanitary situation allows it. Other activities and meetings take place virtually throughout the year. The members are expected to attend these meetings. Travel expenses to attend a physical meeting of the Committee are subject to the relevant ESAIC policy.

In addition to the meetings, the SustaiC members are expected to dedicate additional time to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.

Term of Office

The mandate is a 3-year term of office, starting on 01 January 2026,.

If you are interested, and wish to apply, please send your CV (2 pages) and application letter (1 page, detailing the adherence to the requirements above) and disclose any conflict of interest you may have to the SustaiC to Ingrid.vantorre@esaic.org no later than 9 June 2025 23:59 CET with the subject ‘ESAIC Sustainability Committee Members – vacancy 2026’.

Appointment will be made by the Board of Directors following the recommendation by the Nominations Committee and the SustaiC.
