Philips and ESAIC bring SpaceBuzz to Euroanaesthesia 2024 to champion sustainability in healthcare

In an extraordinary collaboration between Philips and the ESAIC, the SpaceBuzz project will take centre stage at Euroanaesthesia 2024 in Munich. This innovative initiative, rooted in the idea of inspiring the next generation to cherish our planet, aims to raise awareness about sustainability, with a particular focus on healthcare. Both organisations will share their sustainability insights, leveraging their partnership to inspire a new commitment to preserving Earth’s environment.

What is SpaceBuzz?

SpaceBuzz, an educational non-profit project, stands out with its use of virtual reality to replicate an astronaut’s perspective from space. This unique approach fosters an “Overview Effect” a profound sense of global interconnectedness experienced by astronauts when seeing Earth from orbit. By instilling a deeper appreciation of our planet’s fragility, SpaceBuzz plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainability in healthcare at Euroanaesthesia 2024, reaching participants through immersive storytelling.

Philips: A Leader in Sustainable Healthcare

Philips, a leader in health technology, consistently integrates sustainability into its core business practices. Their comprehensive approach emphasises the reduction of carbon emissions, responsible sourcing, and developing energy-efficient technologies. Their latest initiatives include designing products with a lower environmental impact, such as MRI machines that use less helium and energy-efficient patient monitoring systems. By participating in this partnership, Philips aims to inspire the healthcare community to adopt more sustainable practices while delivering quality care.

ESAIC’s Vision for Sustainability

ESAIC’s sustainability agenda is in perfect alignment with Philips’ goals. The organisation is committed to reducing waste and emissions in anaesthesiology and intensive care practices. Through education and research, ESAIC encourages its members to consider the environmental impacts of clinical decisions and advocates for global best practices that minimise resource consumption and pollution. This shared vision and commitment to sustainability strengthen the partnership between Philips and ESAIC.

SpaceBuzz at Euroanaesthesia 2024: What to Expect

During Euroanaesthesia 2024, Philips and ESAIC will present SpaceBuzz as an integral part of the event. Visitors will have the opportunity to embark on a virtual journey to space, offering a vivid glimpse of Earth from orbit. This visual marvel will be complemented by sessions highlighting sustainable practices in healthcare. Attendees will learn how to optimise resources, reduce emissions, and implement sustainable strategies within their practices.

Moreover, both organisations will shed light on current research and innovative solutions in sustainable healthcare. Their joint commitment serves as a call to action for medical professionals to prioritise environmentally conscious decisions in their daily roles.

The Path Forward

With the SpaceBuzz project, Philips and ESAIC aim to galvanise the healthcare sector towards embracing sustainability in all facets. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in raising awareness and finding practical, scalable solutions to healthcare’s environmental challenges.
