European Journal of Anaesthesiology reaches new Impact Factor of 7.8
The European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA) has achieved a 2025 Impact Factor (IF) of 7.8, marking another important milestone in the journal’s continued growth and influence.
This new Impact Factor represents a further increase from the 2024 Impact Factor of 6.8 and continues the strong upward trajectory seen in recent years. Compared with the 2023 Impact Factor of 4.2, the EJA has almost doubled its score in two years, reflecting the journal’s growing visibility, scientific quality and relevance within the global anaesthesiology and intensive care community.

The achievement highlights the continued impact of the EJA’s editorial strategy, with a strong focus on high-quality original research, clinical guidelines, consensus statements, reviews and practice-relevant publications. These contributions support evidence-based care across anaesthesiology, intensive care, pain medicine and perioperative medicine. Leading the list of top-cited papers is the 2024 Update of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine evidence-based and consensus-based guideline on postoperative delirium in adult patients. Other high-impact contributions include the second update of Management of severe peri-operative bleeding: Guidelines from the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, the joint ESAIC/BJA guidelines on Airway management in neonates and infants, and the original research article on the Efficacy and safety of ciprofol vs. propofol for the induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia.
As the official journal of the ESAIC, the EJA plays a central role in disseminating scientific knowledge from across Europe and beyond. The continued rise in Impact Factor reflects not only the journal’s editorial direction, but also the strength and engagement of the wider ESAIC scientific community.
This growth further positions the EJA among the leading journals in its field and reinforces its role as a key platform for high-impact research, clinical guidance and scientific exchange.
While the Impact Factor is only one measure of a journal’s performance, this result is an important recognition of the EJA’s increasing reach and contribution to advancing clinical practice and research in anaesthesiology and intensive care.
The ESAIC congratulates the EJA editorial board, authors, reviewers and readers for their continued contribution to the journal’s success.
On behalf of the EJA editorial board and the ESAIC board
