International Forum on Perioperative Safety & Quality (ISQ) 2020 went Online

On World Patient Safety Day, 17th September 2020, The European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, along with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Anaesthesia Patient Safety Foundation, and World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists, presented an online version of the annual International Forum of Perioperative Safety and Quality.
The International Forum on Perioperative Safety & Quality (ISQ) supports and energises the movement for health care improvement while bringing together leaders and practitioners committed to improving outcomes for patients and communities.
The ISQ is normally a one-day conference on perioperative patient safety that further explores how improvements in patient safety and quality will help to advance the health of individuals and populations. Attendees hear about global perspectives, successful implementation of quality projects, and how to maximise learning from adverse events. They also learn how to analyse success, how to engage stakeholders, and how to manage fatigue. The ISQ brings the latest resources to help improve perioperative outcomes for patients and communities.
In order to meet the challenges facing holding educational events, this year’s ISQ went online. The focus was Health Worker Safety: A Priority for Patient Safety in line with the WHO World Patient Safety Day theme.
Attendees heard from worldwide experts to learn about the latest issues in patient and health care provider safety during COVID-19. This included keynote speakers Albert W. Wu, MD, MPH (USA) who spoke on Supporting Healthcare Workers and Kathleen Ferguson, DA, FRCA, MCBhB (UK) who presented The Emotional Challenge of Frequent Patient-Colleague Deaths in the COVID-19 period.
The event was a great success and so far, has been viewed by over 1,200 participants.
