The term of office will start on 1 January 2027.
Deadline for applications is 19 October 2026.
Role
The ESAIC is seeking to recruit an HOLA Coordinator in the BCSAC Subcommittee.
The BCSAC Subcommittee is responsible for the practical organisation and development of the Basic and Clinical Sciences Anaesthetic Course taking place every year, usually in June and online, and of the Viva Course.
The HOLA Coordinator of the BCSAC Subcommittee will have full voting rights in this Subcommittee and their main duties will be the following:
- Act as BCSAC speaker on a yearly basis.
- Manage the BCSAC question bank, including question writing and coordination of question writing by other BCSAC volunteers.
- Compile the BCSAC HOLA Multiple-Choice Question Papers and oversee the review and final selection of those papers yearly.
- Set up the BCSAC HOLAs on the examination platform.
- Analyse the results of all HOLAs held during BCSAC and present conclusions to the BCSAC Subcommittee.
- Coordinate the EDAIC Trainer app contents: managing question reviews and connecting with Part II Examiners and the Trainees Committee.
- Travel to attend or remotely attend courses, examinations or meetings. Some meetings usually take place face-to-face at the Euroanaesthesia Congress, but all other meetings take place online.
- Provide guidance to office staff on important organisational/logistical matters related to the BCSAC HOLAs.
- Liaise with the BCSAC Subcommittee regarding strategic and/or specific decisions.
- Participate in the selection process of new BCSAC Subcommittee Members.
- Undertake other tasks requested by the BCSAC Subcommittee Chair on an ad-hoc basis.
Requirements
The candidate must have the following profile:
- Must be an ESAIC Active or Affiliate Member.
- Must be a consultant (i.e. not in training; retired anaesthesiologists cannot apply).
- Must be in clinical practice (i.e. not working for research only).
- Must be practising anaesthesia in a hospital with trainee anaesthesiologists.
- Must have a good command of English.
- Must have experience in teaching and educational activities (experience as BCSAC speaker is an asset).
- Must be familiar with OLA/HOLA (participation as OLA Subcommittee member is an asset).
- Previous involvement in other ESAIC related projects/bodies is an asset.
Gender balance and geographical diversity will be encouraged on all Committees. No more than two representatives working professionally in any one country, and no more than one representative from the same institution (except for ex-officio or co-opted members with no voting rights), can sit on any Committee/Subcommittee. In special circumstances, the Board of Directors could grant an exception to this rule.
Term of office
The term of office for BCSAC Subcommittee Members is three years and may be extended five for one-year periods, up to a maximum of eight years in total.
The new member of the BCSAC Subcommittee will officially start their term on 1 January 2027 even if the actual appointment takes place later. BCSAC Members must resign from the Committee within one year after retiring from active work.
Offer
Travel, accommodation and other necessary expenses incurred to attend courses, meetings or examinations are covered by the ESAIC as per the ESAIC Expense Reimbursement Policy.
