Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

Guidelines play a crucial role in delivering evidence-based recommendations to healthcare professionals. Within the fields of anaesthesia and intensive care, guidelines are instrumental in standardizing clinical practices and enhancing patient outcomes. For many years, the ESAIC has served as a pivotal platform for facilitating continuous advancements, improving care standards and harmonising clinical management practices across Europe.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

Guidelines Committee Member

The term of office will start on 1 January 2027.

Deadline for applications is 21 June 2026.

The ESAIC Guidelines Committee (GC) is seeking to recruit a new Member for the Guidelines Committee. The vacancy will occur as of 1st January 2027.

Deadline for applications is 21st June 2026 (23:59 CEST).

Key Responsabilities

The Guidelines Committee fulfils the following functions:

  • Defines the requirement and course of action for an ESAIC Guideline
  • Oversees the process of identification and prioritisation of topics, preparation, evaluation, dissemination and update of ESAIC guidelines
  • Organises and administers the selection of ESAIC Guidelines Task forces
  • Collects and evaluates currently available documents throughout Europe
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with other academic societies and scientific groups as necessary in the preparation of collaborative Guidelines
  • Defines how to implement guidelines and inform ESAIC members
  • Carries out other functions related to the promotion and harmonisation of clinical practice as decided by the ESAIC Board.

Eligibility and Requirements for application

The Guidelines Committee Member will meet the following criteria:

  • Being a qualified anaesthesiologist or intensivist
  • Must have been ESAIC active or affiliate member for at least the last calendar year (2025) on the date of the application deadline
  • Fluency in English
  • Previous guidelines activity
  • Scientific understanding of research evidence and its use in clinical practice
  • Previous administrative tasks related to production and implementation of guidelines
  • Links with national/European anaesthesiology societies

IMPORTANT! Applicants must ensure that they can dedicate sufficient time to this commitment. Timely and continuous communication with the Guidelines Committee and ESAIC Headquarters is expected, to ensure the smooth running of the committee’s projects.

Conflict of Interest and Code of Conduct

  • Full disclosure of any actual or potential conflict of interest is required, in line with the society’s policy
  • Expected to adhere to and uphold the principles set out in the society’s Code of Conduct

Term of office

The tenure is for three years. Any extension (maximum 2 one-year terms) is exceptional and subject to availability, continued commitment, and the committee’s need for continuity.
Term of office will start on 1st January 2027.

  • Upload a CV (maximum of 2 sides of A4).
  • Provide a conflict-of-interest (COI) statement, detailing any current or potential COIs relevant to the role.
  • Statement of adherence to the ESAIC code of conduct.
