Trainees Committee Chair

Role

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated new Chairperson for the Trainees Committee.

The Committee is currently composed of six Trainees Committee members selected by the Scientific, Education and Training, Sustainability, Patient Safety and Quality, Guidelines and Research Committees of ESAIC, and two ESAIC Council Trainee representatives.

The Chairperson post requires close liaison with the ESAIC Secretary (Ex-Officio member of the Committee), who receives reports from the Trainees Committee and represents trainees at ESAIC Board level. Timely and ongoing communication with ESAIC Headquarters is expected to support the effective delivery of Trainees Committee activities and projects.

The mission of the ESAIC Trainees Committee is to:

• Connect an estimated 22,000 anaesthesiology and intensive care trainees across Europe.
• Ensure a representative and effective flow of information between trainees from all European countries and the ESAIC Leadership.

The Chairperson’s main duties will be the following:

• Report to the ESAIC Secretary and/or directly to the ESAIC Board of Directors as needed.
• Maintain close collaboration with Trainees Committee members serving the respective ESAIC Committees.
• Delegate specific tasks to other Trainees Committee members as needed to support the effective functioning of the Committee.
• Serve as the representative voice of trainees, reflecting the collective views and interests of trainees in discussions and decision-making, rather than personal perspectives.
• Work closely with ESAIC Headquarters on internal and external communications.
• Organise regular meetings with the Trainees Committee members (one during Euroanaesthesia and additional meetings throughout the year via teleconference).
• Participate annually in Euroanaesthesia and coordinate trainee-related activities.
• Ensure a smooth and comprehensive handover to the incoming Chair at the end of their term.
• Promote ESAIC and the ESAIC Trainees Network at local, national and international level.
• Promote young anaesthesiologists and intensive care junior doctors within the ESAIC.

Requirements

Applications are encouraged from ESAIC Trainee Members who meet the following criteria:

• Valid ESAIC Trainee membership for at least one calendar year on the date of application.
• Still within their first year after graduating as anaesthesiologists at the end of the total aggregated term of office (three years plus one).
• Member of the ESAIC Trainee Network on social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X, formerly Twitter).
• Previous participation in activities organised by the ESAIC Trainees Network (Euroanaesthesia Trainees Programme Team, European Trainee Ambassador…).
• Previous participation in activities directed to students and/or trainees.
• Current leading position in other networks/organisations (desirable).
• Fluent in English, and apt to give lectures and act as speaker and/or moderator in relevant ESAIC scientific and educational programmes, including Euroanaesthesia.
• Able to dedicate sufficient time to this commitment.
• An established international network in anaesthesiology, perioperative and/or intensive care medicine (desirable).

Applicants should also demonstrate the following:

• Engagement in Trainee and Professional Networks: active involvement in national and/or international student, trainee, or professional networks, organisations, or initiatives. Experience in leadership, representation, project delivery, advocacy, or community-building activities will be considered an asset. Current or previous elected positions, leadership roles, or other significant contributions are particularly welcomed.
• Leadership and Representation: ability to coordinate and delegate tasks effectively while representing and advocating for the collective interests and perspectives of a diverse community. Experience gained through professional, voluntary, academic, or other collaborative activities that reflects these skills will be considered an asset.
• Organisational skills: experience in organising, coordinating, or contributing to national and/or international scientific meetings, educational initiatives, training programmes, or other learning activities in anaesthesiology, perioperative medicine, and/or intensive care medicine.

Term of office

The term of office is three years. For continuity, the Past Chair will remain a member of the Trainees Committee for one year after the end of their term as Chair.
