Trainees Committee Member

Role

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated candidates to serve as Trainee Committee Members within the following ESAIC bodies:

• Scientific Committee
• Education and Training Committee
• Patient Safety and Quality Committee
• Sustainability Committee
• Guidelines Committee
• Research Committee

One Trainee Committee Member position is available for each of the above committees, for a three-year mandate.

Each selected member will then form the Trainees Committee, led by a Chair and two ESAIC Council representatives, both elected by means of a separate call and specific criteria.

The mission of the ESAIC Trainees Committee is to:

• Connect an estimated 22,000 anaesthesiology and intensive care trainees across Europe.
• Ensure a representative and effective flow of information between trainees from all European countries and the ESAIC Leadership.

Members’ main duties will be the following:

• Attend one committee meeting at the annual Euroanaesthesia Congress and monthly Teams (teleconference) meetings throughout the year.
• Promote ESAIC and the ESAIC Trainees Network at local, national and international level.
• Promote young anaesthesiologists and intensive care junior doctors within the ESAIC.
• Increase trainees’ awareness of European standards and professional requirements.
• Inform about the European training curriculum and common training frameworks.
• Help colleagues in their projects and activities.
• Represent the Trainees Committee in the Committee where they hold the position, attend meetings and report back to the Trainees Committee.
• Maintain timely and ongoing communication with ESAIC Headquarters to support the effective delivery of Trainees Committee activities and projects.

Requirements

Applications are encouraged from ESAIC Trainee Members who meet the following criteria:

• Only European Trainee members can apply for Member positions within the Trainees Committee, and must be an ESAIC Trainee Member on the date of their application.
• Only eligible if their traineeship does not come to an end before their three-year term as Trainee/Resident ends. ESAIC Trainee membership ends automatically after the first specialty/consultancy year.
• Previous participation in activities organised by the ESAIC Trainees Network (Euroanaesthesia Trainees Programme Team, European Trainee Ambassador…).
• Previous participation in activities directed to students and/or trainees.
• Fluent in English, and apt to give lectures and act as speaker and/or moderator in relevant ESAIC scientific and educational programmes, including Euroanaesthesia.
• Able to dedicate sufficient time to this commitment.
• An established international network in anaesthesiology, perioperative and/or intensive care medicine (desirable).

Specific qualifications and skills by committee:

Scientific Committee

• Experience in Educational and Scientific Activities: experience in the organisation or delivery of national and/or international scientific meetings, or courses related to anaesthesiology, perioperative medicine, and/or intensive care medicine.
• Must have attended the Euroanaesthesia Annual Conference at least once (as an abstract presenter or regular delegate).

Education and Training Committee

• Familiarity with educational resources and learning tools, and demonstrated experience in developing educational activities, such as live sessions, webinars, social media content, or other innovative learning formats, covering topics of relevance to trainees.
• Experience in organising, coordinating, or actively contributing to national or international scientific meetings, courses or educational and training programmes in anaesthesiology, perioperative and/or intensive care medicine.

Sustainability Committee

• Experience in Sustainability: experience in developing, supporting, or promoting activities or projects that contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of anaesthesia, critical care, and/or perioperative medicine.
• Experience in Sustainability Research: experience in research, audit, or survey-based activities addressing sustainability challenges and opportunities within anaesthesia, critical care, and/or perioperative medicine.

Patient Safety and Quality Committee

• Experience in Patient Safety and Human Factors: experience in patient safety-related activities (including abstracts and oral presentations), incident reporting, patient safety research, and simulation-based education addressing human factors, teamwork, communication, crisis resource management, or incident prevention.
• Experience in developing, implementing, or contributing to activities, projects, or initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety and quality of care in anaesthesia, critical care, and/or perioperative medicine.

Guidelines Committee

• Experience in Scientific Evidence Assessment: experience, or a demonstrated interest, in literature searching, critical appraisal of scientific evidence, and/or contributing to the development of reviews, meta-analyses, guidelines, or other evidence-based resources.
• A genuine interest in the work of the Guidelines Committee, outlining the expertise (if any), experience, perspectives, and skills they would bring to support the Committee’s activities and objectives.

Research Committee

• Experience, or a demonstrated interest, in clinical, basic science, and/or big data/AI research. Contributions to scientific publications, presentations, or other research-related activities are desirable.
• Experience in grant-writing activities, including the preparation, development, or submission of funding applications for research, educational, or other professional projects.

Term of office

The term of office is three years. Members may not be re-selected for a second term in the same position, and terms may not be prolonged. The term of office ends automatically after the first specialist/consultant year.
