Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

With over 40 years of publication history, the EJA (European Journal of Anaesthesiology) has established itself as a highly respected and influential journal in its field. It covers a wide range of topics related to anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, including perioperative medicine, pain management, critical care, resuscitation, and patient safety.

Patient Safety and Quality Committee Member

The term of office will start on 1 January 2027.

Deadline for applications is 22 June 2026.

The ESAIC is seeking to recruit 1 new member of the Patient Safety and Quality Committee (PSQC).

The committee

The Patient Safety and Quality Committee fulfils the ESAIC’s goal to improve perioperative patient outcomes in Europe and across the world.

The role

Each Committee member supports ESAIC and PSQC activities by contributing to PSQC projects and advising on its development. They also propose topics for the Patient Safety and Quality programme at the Euroanaesthesia Congress.

Key Responsibilities

Duties and tasks of PSQC members:

  • Actively participate in the projects of the PSQC. This is an active committee with many ongoing projects;
  • To provide suggestions for further development of the PSQC;
  • To provide suggestions for topics for the Patient Safety and Quality programme for the Euroanaesthesia Congress.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

Eligibility criteria

Applications are encouraged from all ESAIC members who meet the following criteria:

  • Is a qualified anaesthesiologist or intensivist;
  • Must have an Active or Affiliate ESAIC membership at the time of application;
  • Has participated or been involved in ESAIC activities;
  • Is an expert in the areas of the Patient Safety and Quality;
  • Has been involved in Patient Safety and Quality Projects;
  • Has publications related to Patient Safety and Quality;
  • Has spoken or been invited to speak on Patient Safety related topics;
  • Is fluent in English.

Availability

This position requires a significant amount of time to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, including meeting attendance, Committee work and participation in Patient Safety educational activities.

Conflict of Interest and Code of Conduct

  • Full disclosure of any actual or potential conflicts of interest is required, in line with the society’s policy.
  • Expected to adhere to and uphold the principles set out in the society’s Code of Conduct.

Term of office

The new member of the Patient Safety will be elected for a term of 3 years.

The term of office is set to start on 1 January 2027 and end on 31 December 2029.

The term can be extended, subject to approval, for up to two further years. No member can serve for more than five years.

  • short outline (maximum two A4 pages) of your goals and perspectives;
  • a list of publications;
  • declaration of Conflict of Interest for the last 3 years;
  • statement of adherence to the ESAIC Code of Conduct.

Applications must be received no later than 22 June 2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Complete applications will be reviewed by the Patient and Safety and Quality Committee and the Nominations Committee.
