Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

Scientific Committee- Scientific Forums Members

The term of office will start on 1 January 2027.

Deadline for applications is 22 June 2026.

The Committee

The Scientific Committee provides a European platform for contact and exchange of ideas and scientific initiatives in the fields of anaesthesia, intensive care, perioperative, critical emergency and pain medicine, with an aim of producing scientific content for conferences and educational programmes organised by the ESAIC. The committee is organised in 5 Scientific Forums, gathering several expert groups focusing on a specific area of expertise.

The role

The ESAIC Scientific Committee (SC) is seeking to recruit new members for its different scientific forums dedicated to:

  • Patients  (Forum 2)
  • Organs (Forum 3)
  • Therapies (Forum 4)

To strengthen the expert groups working in the above scientific forums, the ESAIC is looking for candidates with a specific expertise in the areas listed below. Both anaesthesiologists with or without experience in intensive care and intensive care physicians are encouraged to apply.

  • Obstetric anaesthesiology and/or critical care
  • Paediatric anaesthesiology and/or critical care
  • Critical Emergency Medicine
  • Pain Medicine
  • Neuroanaesthesiology and/or critical care
  • Cardio-vascular and haemodynamics
  • Airway management

Key Responsibilities

In this structure, forum members are appointed to contribute to the following duties:

Operational

  • Creating session proposals along with suggestions for topics and speakers (including themselves) for the scientific programme of the annual Euroanaesthesia congress, and other ESAIC educational events (webinars, podcasts, e-learning modules, and other formats).
  • Ensuring alignment with the latest clinical evidence, innovations, and international guidelines.
  • Assessing abstracts submitted for presentation at Euroanaesthesia (EA), participating in the Best Abstract process selection and other abstract-related activities during the annual congress.
  • Collaborating with other forums, especially when developing scientific content in overlap with other forums’ specialty.
  • Contributing to the content development of any other educational activities linked to the topics covered by the forum.
  • Undertaking additional responsibilities as decided by the Scientific Committee and/or Board.

Coordination

When a lead role becomes available in a subforum, elected forum members may appoint a subforum lead by agreement. The subforum lead is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the work of the subforum and acting as the main point of contact for the forum chairs and ESAIC headquarters for their specialty.
  • Fostering a cohesive vision across subforum members based on a culture of innovation, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement to enhance the impact, relevance, and accessibility of ESAIC’s scientific congresses.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

Eligibility criteria

Only ESAIC active, affiliate or trainee members in good standing can apply for member positions in a scientific forum.

Compliance with the Nomination policy. Therefore:

  • Each subforum may include no more than two members working in the same country and no more than one member from the same institution. Where a subforum consists of only two members, they must be working in different countries.
  • Members cannot hold other positions within the same or other forums of the scientific committee.

Only applications that meet all of the above eligibility criteria will be considered for review.

Qualifications and skills

Applicants must:

  • have a proven track record and established international network in the specialty applied for, i.e.:
    • Obstetric anaesthesiology and/or critical care
    • Paediatric anaesthesiology and/or critical care
    • Critical Emergency Medicine
    • Pain Medicine
    • Neuroanaesthesiology and/or critical care
    • Cardio-vascular and haemodynamics
    • Airway Management
  • Be fluent in English, and apt to give lectures and act as speakers and/or moderators in relevant ESAIC scientific and educational programmes, including Euroanaesthesia.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to collaborative and inclusive working within the forum and committee.

Availability

Applicants must also ensure that they can dedicate sufficient time to this commitment. Timely and continuous communication with the Scientific Committee and ESAIC Headquarters is expected, to ensure the smooth running of the committee’s projects.

Conflict of Interest and Code of Conduct

  • Full disclosure of any actual or potential conflicts of interest is required, in line with the society’s policy.
  • Applicants are expected to adhere to and uphold the principles set out in the ESAIC code of conduct.

Term of office

The term of office is 3 years. Any extension (maximum 2 one‑year terms) is exceptional and subject to availability, continued commitment, and the forum’s needs for continuity.
All terms of office will start from 1 January 2027.

To apply, candidates must:

  • Complete the application form
  • Upload a CV (maximum of 2 sides of A4);
  • Provide a conflict-of-interest (COI) statement, detailing any actual or potential COIs relevant to the role;
  • Confirm that they have read and understood the ESAIC code of conduct.

*All sections of the application form must be completed clearly and in sufficient detail.
